saving defaults?

Gimp used to start with the regular black foreground, white background color setting. At one point I must have done something without realizing, because now whenever I start the foreground color is set to a light pink. I want it to be black again, but I don't know how I get that reset. I tried picking black and then closing Gimp, but as soon as I start the program it switched back to the pink color. Where can I make it remember the default color selection?

Alas, that did not work. Neither, as I tried both just saving and the ticky. My foreground color is still pink when I restart.

Hmm. That's odd. I know from my testing before I made the comment that if the box is unticked then it'll definitely not save the colours, so I figured that it would otherwise.

Does it actually save the tool options for each tool when that box is ticked? That might help narrow down whether it's an issue saving or not. Also, what OS do you run?

I use Gimp 2.6 on Ubuntu, and now that you mention it, it actually seems to have a general problem saving settings. I changed some paintbrush setting and it doesn't seem to remember that either. Huh.

I know that at one point I replaced my old .gimp-2.6 folder manually with another to install a whole bunch of new brushes (one that was linked earlier in this comm here), but after that the foreground color was still black.

You may want to check the permissions of the ~/.gimp-2.6/tool-options directory and the files in it, just in case.

I'm the owner and have read/write permission for all of them as far as I can tell. This is very odd.

Hmm. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1199162 suggests that you also need to tick the box on the Input Devices page to save settings on exit, too. It may be worth trying that, since it seemed to fix it for the person who posted that thread!

(Though for what it's worth, I don't have that option ticked and it saves just fine for me. Then again, I'm using Windows, not Linux.)

Wow, that ticky box did indeed the trick! It now saved the preferences. Though seriously, that is random and convoluted! My chicken waving icon feels quite appropriate.
