Unopenable image

GIMP 2.6 on Mac OS X seems to be unable to open photos taken on a Nokia N900. When I try to open one (e.g. this one [1.3MB download]), GIMP hangs and a ufraw-gimp process starts consuming all my CPU until I kill it. This isn't just me being impatient — I let it sit there for over five minutes and it never managed to open it.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Can you open it in Preview?

Have you tried opening it in Preview, saving it with a different file extension, and then opening it in the Gimp?

FWIW it opens fast and without trouble in my linux GIMP 2.6, so it seems to be a Mac problem.

Maybe something is different about the libraries handling jpeg format, but then why would it work in your browser? It's really odd.

If you never use raw images then killing the ufraw plugin should do the trick:

chmod -x /Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/ufraw-gimp

Huh, I thought I tested it (against your image). Did you restart Gimp after chmodding the plugin? AFAICT it enumerates plugins at startup so it may cope better with a plugin never being runnable than going away during its lifetime.
