Gimp extras

There are so many things you can do with Gimp, but sometimes, you just want a quick and easy click and point kind of thing. Maybe you're pressed for time, or - more likely, you just want to experiment and see what's out there.

FX Foundry has a terrific collection of scripts running from animation, logo building to the real cream of the set, layer effects, multi-layer tools and a variety of photo tools.

The last version is 2.6-1. Don't forget to periodically check the site for updates.

Another collection you might find useful and fun is the Gimp Paint Studio. More than just a collection of brushes, GPS includes presets and tool settings, along with color palettes.

From the website:

The goal of GPS is to provide an adequate working environment for graphic designers and artists to begin to paint and feel comfortable with GIMP from their first use.

The website includes how to videos, the user manual in many languages, and splash screens if you're inclined to modify your Gimp. There is also an Artistic Oils Brushkit. Version 1.5 has just been released.

I'd include examples, but, I'm not really good at digital painting - yet.

Don't forget the read the README notes with each collection. They usually include installation instructions.

Have fun.

Thanks a lot for the Gimp Paint Studio link. I had never heard of that.

It's too bad that computers still aren't at the point where you can just think your vague ideas at them and they make it into something pretty like you imagined, that you can then refine also just by thinking at it, rather than having to mess around with graphics tablets and stuff, all hampered by the own talent and practice (or lack thereof).
