Hello, just got pointed to this comm, and came across this post. How do I go about installing a font for use e.g. in GIMP on Linux (Ubuntu)? Never installed a font before.
It is explained in the Ubuntu Wiki here. Hope it answers your question. I use Kubuntu (Ubuntu + KDE) and here it's very easy to install fonts via the System Settings. Maybe Ubuntu has something similar these days.
GIMP has access to all fonts that are installed on your computer, but if you install a new font while GIMP is open you need to restart the program to be able to use the new font with GIMP.
