Question: grain on a print scan.

Question time!

I have a picture, which I downloaded from a long gone site, that had taken a scan of a photo, which has a really grainy nature. Is there any filter/combo/whathaveyou I can apply to the image to alleviate the grain?

Filters--> Blur--> Gaussian Blur is what I use; 1-2 pixels usually works well, but it depends on the scanning settings.

Selective Gaussian Blur can be even better for this, as it keeps the edges of things sharp.

Thank you for the advice! I ended up going with Selective Gaussian Blur -- the straight Gaussian Blur was too much for the size of the image.

Thank you! This worked well, it's not perfect, but the graininess is less apparent!

(Most of my GIMP skills are translated from Photoshop, where I've had very specific training on a few things, with huge gaps in my knowledge. Always glad to learn new stuff.)

Hee, just like mine. All my knowledge relates to colouring, layers, and was translated from Photoshop as well. I'm only just expanding!
