I thought this might be useful information for a lot of people. This entry describes step-by-step what to do.

I worked for me and this community's link collection, hopefully it will work for you as well! I had moved to the new delicious in time, so my accounts hadn't been deleted, but considering what they've done with the site I don't really trust them anymore...

The last couple of weeks, I've been adding more links to gimpgate on delicious. I think the collection covers most of the (English-written) GIMP tutorial/forum websites out there, but in case I've missed some, or you know of good websites in other languages, you can tell me by commenting here; comments there will be screened to avoid unnecessary spam or advertising in the future. Also, I'd like to hear if you know of good stock websites, websites with large font, brush, or texture collections, or any other kinds of resources that might come in handy when creating something with GIMP. Thanks for your help! :)

In other news, I've stumbled upon an article about the myth of DPI, in which the author explains what you need to know about the resolution in digital images bound for the web. He also explains what you need to keep in mind when using images in fluid-width layouts.

GIMP Gate can now also be found on delicious (as previously noted here). I've created an account and a few bookmarks are already 'live', but the (still private) bookmark collection is quite large and it might take a while to sort it, especially since I don't have much spare time at the moment. Anyway, if you have comments or suggestions regarding the link collection, please let me know :)

GIMP Gate is a project that's been simmering for a long time in the back of my mind; the initial idea was to create a simple website that would help people, who are fairly new to The GIMP (and image manipulation), get started. Having to wade through countless websites and (often unsorted) link collections can be quite frustrating, especially if you are a beginner and don't know yet what exactly you are looking for. But then I realized that such a website - without any social networking and collaborative tools - wouldn't be flexible enough, and in the end not very helpful either. Which brings us here...

EDIT: Inkscape, an open source vector graphics editor application, similar to Adobe Illustrator, has been added to the community based on users' choice/interest.

What GIMP Gate is about

In this community, people can share tips & tricks about GIMP/Inkscape, they can ask other people for help, they can post (about) tutorials and resources, they can write meta-posts and/or image manipulation, they can pose challenges... The list is endless and all kinds of posts are welcome here as long as they're somehow related to GIMP/Inkscape (read the complete guidelines & rules).

In addition to this community, I'll also collect links on delicious, to make it easier for people to find external websites related to GIMP/Inkscape and other useful resources. External links will be periodically checked to ensure that they work. Of course, there are thousands of websites out there, of varying quality; many of them are already listed on delicious. The goal with the link collection is to point people in the right direction, and to help them see through the trees in order to get a better view of the GIMP/Inkscape forest. The intention is not to list all websites out there...

How to help, how to join

If you know of good websites that you think should be in the link collection on delicious, please tell me by commenting on this entry here. All comments will be screened to avoid unnecessary spam or advertising.
