I created an artwork last November, which is one in a series. It used a particular font, but I can't remember what that font was. Unfortunately that was created on my now dead, previous laptop. I now want to make a new artwork in the series and need to use the same font, but it apparently wasn't one of the standard fonts (though I'm sure it was a free font), because when I open the old XCF file, Gimp does not display the name of the font, but it is blank. Is there a way to get the name of the font I'm now missing from that old file so that I can download the font again?

Hello! I want to make myself an icon along the lines of the pretty-coloured text ones that [personal profile] blnchflr did a tutorial for, but I've run across a small problem.

I'm using GIMP 2.6.7 on OS X 10.6.2, and I cannot get the text tool to let me type in pinyin, nor can I get it to admit that I have Chinese fonts installed. Has anyone here got any experience in making this work?

Edited to add: Sorted thanks to [personal profile] ewx and [personal profile] dragonwolf (see comments).

So much to do, so little interest. I actually am looking for some nice (free) icon fonts, so I can use some of the stock imagery I have saved! Does anybody have any recs?

This tutorial is aimed at Gimp novices. It is my first tutorial, un-betaed, and I welcome feedback!

The font I'm using is Amadeus, but you can choose any font you like. (For Ubuntu font newbies = me 2 weeks ago: Installing fonts in Ubuntu.)

I'm not a Gimp expert, but I'm happy to help if I can: ask if you get stuck or have questions :o)

I've come across the creativeNerds blog where you can get inspiration and ideas for graphic design and web design. Recently, for instance, they posted the 50 Best Free Fonts From 2009. It's worth checking out.
